DECKERT, Murray Nelson Frederick
Passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in the early hours of Friday, December 16, 2022, with his wife by his side. Murray was born in Kitchener, Ontario, 70 years ago and was a long time resident of the New Hamburg Community.
Beloved husband of Suzan (Rieck) Deckert, whom he married 47 years ago. Loving father of Trevor and wife Tracey (Eagles) Deckert and Travis and wife Cathy Deckert. Proud and devoted grandfather of Trent and MacKenzie. Murray will be missed by brother Brian Deckert and sister Marilyn Dietrich as well as by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Donna Gaulton (Charles), Patsy Lee Leis (Roger), Hilda Faugh, Sarah Coleman (Raymond), and Paul Rieck (Michelle Johnstone) and by his many nieces, nephews, co-workers and friends. Murray will be in the hearts of his God children Brandy Ireland and Gregory Leis.
Predeceased by his father and mother, Kenneth and Katherine (Ohm) Deckert, sister Cathy-Lyn Deckert (1956) and by in laws Harry and Ida (Hiscock) Rieck.
Murray was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hamburg and the Royal Canadian Legion branch 532, New Hamburg. Murray was an athlete and loved playing sports. He played for the Old Crocs Hockey Team, Bamberg Broomball, enjoyed a good game of Horseshoes. Murray was a loyal Detroit Red Wings and Tigers fan. He enjoyed a good game of Cribbage and was a team member of the Restless Seniors Dart League. Murray was a devoted member of his Wilmot Township Community, coaching minor hockey and Wilmot soccer. Murray and Suzan enjoyed camping along Lake Huron and in the winter, Murray enjoyed Ice fishing in North Bay. Above all Murray was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, and enjoyed spending his time with his family and grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg, on Thursday, December 22, 2022, from 1 – 3 & 5 – 8 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Friday, December 23, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Tanya Varner officiating. All are welcome to join the family following the service at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 532, New Hamburg to continue to celebrate Murrays wonderful life. The family wishes all in attendance to wear red and white in Murray’s honour. Masks are strongly encouraged.
